For Immediate Release December 12, 2012 BOULDER, Colorado – USA Rugby released today the preliminary winter and spring schedule for their Women's and Men's U-20 programs, as well as plans to modify the selection procedures for the U-20 National Teams, which will now be called the Junior All-Americans. In an effort to bring in players from more regions of the country, provide additional opportunities for player development and minimize the cost and travel time for players, prospective athletes will now be accepted to one of several Junior All-American regional camps this spring via an open application process. In the past, players were selected to the men’s or women’s Under-20 National Team based on their performance at the Regional All Star U-19 Tournaments, High School or High School Club National Championships, Collegiate National All-Star Championships or by nomination. “The new selection procedure will allow me to work with more players and coaches to help develop their skills and create a pathway for the players towards playing for the national team,” said Women’s Junior All-American team head coach Danielle Miller. Participants in the regional camps this spring will be eligible for selection to the men’s and women’s 2013 Junior All-American teams that will play in the 2013 Junior World Championship (men) in June and the 2013 Nation’s Cup (women) in July. “With the selection process, we are just looking to get the best kids available,” added Men’s Junior All-American head coach Jason Kelly. “It’s all about seeing as many kids as we can and selecting the best that American rugby has available in a short period of time.” Women's players born on or after September 1, 1992, and men's player born on or after January 1, 1993, are eligible to apply for the Junior All-American teams for 2013. Players and coaches must begin the application process before February 28, 2013. Contact Junior All-American head coaches Danielle Miller at dmiller@usarugby.org or Jason Kelly at jkelly@usarugby.org to start the application process.
